5 Steps To Building Your Confidence


In an industry that often shines the spotlight on the external + the material, it is easy to let your ego lead the way, keeping you feeling small, feeling like you’re an outsider + that you are somehow not enough.

Comparing yourself to others or even to “where you should be by now,” will quickly chip away at your confidence.

Maybe you look around and see those who are achieving success and think they have something you don’t have.  Add a few scrolls through Facebook or Twitter when you are in a negative funk, and it could leave you feeling pretty hopeless + depressed.

Well, guess what?

At the age of 23, Oprah was fired from her job as a TV reporter. She was actually told she was “unfit for television.”

So how did she keep going, keep believing in herself + find the confidence she now exudes?  I was so inspired to recently learn this….

When you connect to a power greater than yourself (whatever you’d like to call it), and really feel the love that abounds there, you will begin to know that you are not separate, that getting fired (or not booking the job) doesn’t mean it’s over and that you really are on the right path.

You don’t have to sit and meditate for hours to connect. Some days it might be easier to tap into this powerful energy by broadening your awareness of what is around you rather than to trying to go deeper “inward.”

Here are a few ways to connect with a power greater than yourself:

  • Get out in nature + notice the energy of abundance that surrounds you.
  • Watch a sunset.
  • Look into the eyes of a baby.
  • Pet an animal.
  • Smell a rose in full bloom.
  • Look up at the night sky.

When you begin to notice the divine connection of everything in life, even the divine timing of your existence, you may also begin to redefine failure. When you do, your connection strengthens, you take things less personally + you don’t allow setbacks to break you. You find ways to keep going + your confidence builds.

You can connect with this power (love, light, grace, serenity + abundance) all day long, as long as you aren’t pinching yourself off from receiving it (or telling the Universe how or when it should come to you!)  When your mind is calm + at ease, you are tuned in to your creativity + your power.

Here are 5 Steps To Building Your Confidence:

1) Let go of focusing on “What Is.”  (Remember – your current reality is SO temporary.)

2) Connect to a power greater than yourself.  (In whatever way feels best today.)

3) Align with positive expectation. (Since you get what you expect)

4) Take inspired actions from this good feeling place.  (Continue to master what you do.)

5) Give thanks for the unknown blessings that are already on their way to you. (Of which there are many)


When you have tools to help you bounce back from failures, you’ll find that building your confidence is easier than you think.  And ultimately, it’s an inner game.
