Leveraging Your Own Girl Squad and the Entrepreneurial Lifestyle

0

You know that saying “birds of a feather flock together.” Nowadays that’s even more important for any chica living the entrepreneurial lifestyle. Now, when I say “entrepreneurial lifestyle” it’s not just those who are running startups and creating businesses. The entrepreneurial lifestyle is for anyone who’s creating a reality that’s on their own terms bringing their own vision to life.

Now when we embarked on the entrepreneurial lifestyle, one of the things they left out of the brochure was a warning about how lonely the journey was going to be. If you’re extroverted and a social butterfly then this won’t be much of a hindrance for you. However, if you’re a shy introverted empath, then you know how long the “party for one” can last.

#GirlSquads are getting mainstream attention thanks to the likes of Taylor Swift and Beyonce. It’s not a new concept but it is getting recognition as something which helps bolster confidence and creates something that is so very important when you’re on the entrepreneurial journey – community.

After observing some of the pop culture #GirlSquads, here are some tips to creating and leveraging your own:

1) IDENTIFY YOUR CAUSE & CREATE YOUR TRIBE.

We see this with #LeanIn and #BlackGirlMagic and even Ms. In The Biz’s #HireAMs. What is that one cause you can rally the troops behind? Is it to empower women directors? Create opportunities for underrepresented writers in television? Non-stereotypical roles for Latinas in film? Whatever your cause, make it clear and catchy.

2) TRANSFORM YOUR TRIBE INTO A BRAND.

Make it more than just a hashtag. Create a logo, setup a landing page, launch a Facebook group, plan events – do whatever you can do to turn your cause into something that’s bigger than yourself. People rally behind causes that represent something more.

3) PARTNER WITH OTHER GROUPS.

“A rising tide lifts all boats.” Who else is down for your cause? Collaborate with others to bring a greater awareness to your tribe. This is especially important for women in any industry. It’s not a coincidence when you see the same cliques of women supporting one another, rising together.

4) ADOPT A TRIBE MENTALITY.

Building your #GirlSquad is more than just having a tribe of like-minded chicas. It’s also about fostering the growth and potential of one another. Replace the term competition with collaboration because having a scarcity mindset only limits you.

Before you know it, everyone will have their own #GirlSquad, tooting your horns and uplifting each other to the highest potential. Just make sure to give a shout-out to #MsInTheBiz when you do! 😉
