My relationship with food hasn’t always been a happy or healthy one. When I moved to the US, without my immediate family, my weight shot up. Whether it was the extreme processed food intake, missing my family, learning a new language, culture shock, or a combination of it all, I went from a healthy child to an overweight child.
Since then it’s been quite a roller coaster ride. About three years ago, after reading the book Skinny Bitch, I decided to become a vegetarian. It’s been quite an experience and I haven’t looked back, but I became a “starchytarian”: vegetarian that eats too much starch. Boooo.
After watching loads of food documentaries, reading many books, reading loads of blogs; and taking nutrition and physiology classes, I’ve reached a new conclusion: I’m going vegan! But not just any kind of vegan, a high Raw Vegan! (Please take everything you watch and/or read with a grain of salt; remember: correlation is not causation 🙂 )
I’ve “dabbled” in Raw Veganism before this, but I’ve never truly committed to the lifestyle. I have learned I need to start “eating to live” as opposed to “living to eat”. As I guinea pig my body, and find the “right” eating lifestyle for my system, I’d love it if you’ll come and join me every month on my journey into (high) Raw Veganism. I intend to take everything I read, watch, and learn with a grain of salt and a banana by my side.
Eat your fruits and veggies!
