The Back Story:
In the summer of 2013 I started to become acutely aware of how important it was for anyone in the entertainment industry to make their own content. In fact it was with this SAG-LifeRaft YouTube video on that subject that I found our very own Helenna Santos and Ms. In The Biz. And in fact, I even discuss the importance of producing one’s own content on my own YouTube channel, Baby Boomer Actress in this video. However, at that time this idea of creating my own content would have to wait. And wait it did for well over a year.
At the conclusion of 2014, as I reflected on my first year in LA and assessed my goals for the coming year in this Ms. In The Biz article and on my YouTube video, it become glaringly apparent that if I wanted to make any inroads at all in my budding acting career I would have to do something to catapult myself to the next level. And that something had already been percolating in my brain for more than a year, so I immediately knew what “it” was that I had to do. I was going to make a documentary.
You ask, but what about? Keep reading my lovelies …
In July of 2013 I made this video, Gray Is The New Blonde for my YouTube channel and it became an instant sensation.
Who knew there was such an interest in gray hair? Honestly, I was stunned. And as well my very first article that I wrote for Ms. In The Biz on the same subject also received a lot of traction. So when it came time to figure out what my documentary would be about I didn’t really have to figure anything out. It was right there in front of me. You could say it chose me. After receiving so much feedback on my YouTube video I discovered a huge community of women on Facebook that like me, for one reason or another decided not to dye their hair once they started to go gray. Wow! By the thousands there were women all across America and abroad embracing their gorgeous grays. As the idea began to take shape I no longer simply wanted to do this documentary I felt compelled to. I HAD to do it.
So in January of this year, 2015 I “got on the train” and here is where I am as of this writing.
March 9th, 2015:
For the first two months of this year (Jan-Feb) I did a ton of research. A ton. Did I say a ton? Yes, it was a ton. So many questions and the more questions that got answered the more questions I had. It was as if the answers were having babies. One question answered turned into ten new questions. And believe you me I have no idea what I’m doing but I know one thing for sure; start moving forward and you’ll figure things out quickly.
Now in the last 2 weeks I bought the domain name and am currently working with two artists from Fiverr on the photo collage and logo for the Facebook page and website.
In the mix I also determined the best crowdfunding platform for my movie which will be Seed & Spark. There are several platforms to choose from and after reviewing all the different ones available the one that resonated with me hands down was Seed & Spark. The CEO, Emily Best is so very smart and really seems to have a handle on what it means to be a truly independent filmmaker. For me Seed & Spark is a perfect fit.
And finally just yesterday I reached out to all my Silver Sisters in the various private Facebook groups I belong to inviting them to submit photos for the photo collage my two artists are working on and to announce to them the making of this documentary. The response has been overwhelmingly positive.
All in all I’m off to a good start. I’m dreaming big for this. Why not.
As the popular saying goes,
“Shoot for the moon.
Even if you miss,
you will land among the stars.”
Til next time…Victoria xox
