394974_10151345654273623_1992912800_nI’m guessing that most of you have taken a Zumba class or at least heard the name.  I have my preconceived notions about this fitness craze, but I wouldn’t be giving it my all if I skipped over Zumba.  I don’t use the words fitness craze lightly…people are crazy over Zumba.  I am running into more and more people who are becoming certified Zumba instructors.  In fact, my best friend has proclaimed that she, too, is interested in teaching Zumba.  I’m down for that, as long as she gives me free classes.

You can literally take Zumba anywhere.  You can buy DVD’s at Target or watch it on demand through your cable company.  Zumba is offered at almost every studio or gym including the YMCA.  I took a class at Blackbird Dance Company on Sunset and Highland.  I took Agustin’s class.  I didn’t talk to him directly, I just paid him my 10 bucks and as soon as the clock struck the top of the hour we started dancing.  My guess is that Agustin is a professional dancer.  He moved so quick and effortlessly I thought for sure he was straight from one of those reality dance shows.  His class had about 25 students.   The students were all ages, all shapes, and included many guys.  There is a little to be desired in the way of stretching and cool down.  So come to class a little warm.

So those are the facts ma’am…now…what I really think of Zumba…I think it’s a little crazy.  They have special Zumba music, special Zumba clothes, and special Zumba dance moves.  I felt like I had never taken a dance class in my life.  I couldn’t understand what his feet were doing.  I ended just hopping up and down looking confused.  I was sweating and burning tons of calories, but I find it irritating when I don’t pick up the combinations.  If you don’t care about being perfect and just want to have a good time, then you might love this class.  Oh, and there is a lot of yelling, “ZUMBA!!!”  I’m going to wait on taking anymore Zumba classes for now…but I’ll give it go again.
