It’s that time of year already. I’m not talking about last minute Christmas shopping and New Year’s Eve planning. I’m talking about awards season! Many nominations have already been announced, but did you know that the shows have already begun?
The Women’s Image Awards, the first show of the awards season, took place Wednesday at the historic Santa Monica Bay Woman’s Club. The WIN awards as they are called are dedicated to promoting gender parity in the media.
Founder Phyllis Stuart said she created them to honor people who show “women in 3D and not just double D”.
In addition to the 85 nominations of writers, directors, producers and performers in television and film, WIN presented Ambassador Swanee Hunt its Humanitarian tribute. This woman is a true gem – kind, generous, strong-willed, persistent, loving, caring, visionary and fun. Not to mention she has raised millions of dollars in philanthropic efforts.
Cecilia DeMille Presley was presented with WIN’s Living Legend tribute. Rosalind Jarrett Sepulveda received the inaugural Special Achievement tribute.
WIN winners included New Girl’s Zooey Deschanel for Outstanding Actress in a comedy series, Kerry Washington for Outstanding Actress in a drama series for Scandal, Shonda Rhimes for Outstanding Film/Show written by a women for Scandal, and Cher walked away with a producer award for outstanding television Dear Mom Love Cher.
Unfortunately, with their busy schedules not all the nominees were able to attend. However I caught some of them including musical genius David Foster – who gave a killer performance that night with Ruben Studdard – Hot on my Red Carpet.
