Hello “Ms. In the Biz” busy bee readers! I know how exhausting it can be when you’re on a new “diet”, and it seems the Universe is trying to sabotage your efforts. Junk food, candy, bake goods, and the list goes on. Well, being a busy bee myself, I want to share what I usually carry around with me at all times 😉
Although I’m a very “basic” Raw Vegan–if I can, I’ll eat the lettuce straight out of the grocery bag as opposed to make a salad :P–I do have some essential foods I carry with me whenever I’m on set, in class, in school, at auditions, on set… well, you get the picture.
Ripe Fruit
Raw Veganism, at least the “kind” I’m following, calls for loads–and I mean loads–of fruit. Ripe fruit that is. Why ripe? Well, the short answer is ripe fruit sugars have all broken down and they have a higher content of antioxidants. The long answer can be read here.
I try to carry fruit that is in season. In the summer I’ve carried along peaches, nectarines, and pluots–they’re juicy and yummy.
Green Smoothie
Green smoothies are a great way to get a meal in without having to deal with all the leftover fruit leaves–no pesky peels, pits, or whatnots. I always make sure I make enough for, say, two meals. One Vitamix 64-oz container equals two meals for me.
Chia or Flax seeds
I don’t get enough Omega-3s, so I carry around three servings of either seed. I can sprinkle them on my smoothies, fruit, or salads.
Veggies & Nuts
I mostly eat my veggies in my green smoothies, i.e. spinach, kale, or lettuce, so the ones I carry around are carrots, celery, cucumbers, zucchini, or even bell peppers. I eat them whenever I want a quick bite and don’t feel like fueling on fruit.
I go nuts for any kind of nuts, but I try to keep them to a minimum. There are loads of good things in nuts: manganese, calcium, protein, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, zinc, copper, iron, high in omega-3, and Vitamin E. However, they also have a bad side: they contain a high amount of omega 6.
Water!
And finally, water! I can never go without water. Sure the catering on set has water, but many times I feel like I hog the packages of bottled water available. Not to mention I’m not a big proponent of bottled water so I pack my own and you should too!
xoxo
