As an actress and female filmmaker it has been a burning desire to increase gender equality in films and break the female stereotypes. I want to portray real female characters that anybody can relate to; strong and ambitious, but not perfect or stereotypical. Female roles that are empowering and that challenge the status quo. Born and raised in Amsterdam, coming from Holland to Hollywood; It was a big step, but certainly worth it. I’m grateful to be part of the film industry. Miss Merchant has been nominated by VIVA.nl, the largest women’s website in The Netherlands, reaching 1.2 million viewers every month, as ‘Powerwoman of the year’ for her leading roles in distinguished stage productions and producing her own films in Hollywood. Angelique Merchant is very well known in her country for her defined powerful characters in the critically acclaimed stage productions and has kept her an audience favorite. Now she is making a mark in Hollywood. She graduated from the world renowned Stella Adler Academy, received a full time scholarship. Recently, Angelique produced and stars in the critically acclaimed ‘2 Strangers’, Which drew terrific crowd at one of the city's hottest cultural attractions, Hammer Museum and earned an official selection by Equality International Film Festival. It is still in consideration for more than 20 film festivals.
