Have you ever considered what your mornings are like and how they affect you for the rest of the day? Do you find yourself incapable of waking up? Or maybe, you just stay in bed for an extra hour and catch up on Social Media on your phone. Maybe, just maybe, you sleep in as late as possible and run out of the door for the morning, completely rushed and anxious. If you find that you’re not quite happy with how your mornings go, may I suggest you build yourself a morning routine? Building a routine for yourself can allow…

Every once in awhile, we hit a wall and we feel like we have nothing to draw from for inspiration or creativity. The well has run dry. Feeling stuck in this position feels lousy. It can make you feel all sorts of crazy, depressed, and out and out bummed. Next time you feel tapped out, why not try one of these ideas to help fill yourself up again? 1. Get lost in a story: Pick up a book, a movie, even a magazine. Letting yourself get lost in someone else’s world will not only take your mind off of your…
Massage makes me feel good, acting makes me feel alive. This was an epiphany that hit last month. It might not mean a lot to you, but it suddenly put a focus on my life that I hadn’t had before. You see, I was constantly at war with myself that one career choice had to come before the other. I never saw them working hand in hand. I never saw that both sustained me in more than one way. For years I have waffled between the two, thinking if one career didn’t feed me, then maybe the other would. I…
How did you do with last month’s challenge of taking 5 minutes for yourself every day and meditating? I had some high and low points. High: was able to stretch myself into 10 minutes. Yay! Low: I wasn’t consistent and could feel the difference. High: I was in Maui last week and got to sit and meditate on the beach. I’m continuing to mediate and working on being consistent. Life is about the journey, after all. This month, I want you to think about what we improvisors like to call, “Yes, and….” It’s your basic guideline into improv, and no…
“Take 5!” That’s our chance to take a break on set. We’re allowed to go breathe, visit the little girl’s room, or just get the next fix of our Twitter addiction. But when you apply Take 5 to your life, what does it mean? I’m just learning to apply this now. It’s extremely important, I think, in whatever facet of the biz you’re in. Take 5 minutes for yourself. Does that sound weird, crazy, and impossible? It just might if you’re a human being working hard toward your goals – and that’s okay. If you feel that you can’t take…
If you’re like me, you find auditioning somewhat of an anxiety driven task. Figuring out all the little details, (parking, do these shoes work, why does everyone look like me), as well as the big ones, (you know… LINES, where the heck is the room). It kinda makes me lose my mind. I’m looking forward to the day it doesn’t do that, as I hear it’s possible. In the meantime, what does one do? 1. Breathe – That’s right, take a nice, deep breath from your diaphragm. I find that taking a deep breath often puts me in the moment…
Greetings! There has been much going on in my own little Patty-verse and sadly I didn’t get to check out any spas. So I decided to tell you about 5 things that often come up in a massage session with various and sundry clients. 1. You should never be afraid to tell your massage therapist if they’re using too much pressure. What’s too much pressure? On a scale of 1 to 10, it’s a 7. It’s the “good hurt” – you can breathe through it, and you know the MT has reached a spot that needs to be worked with.…
I found Thai Lotus Healing Spa in Sherman Oaks through a friend’s recommendation. As I mentioned briefly in my last post, I think Thai Massage is awesome. I wanted to set out and find another place to go. The tricky thing in this town, and probably others, is that often you don’t know if a place offering Thai Massage is legit. Some of those $40 massage places don’t look it, their windows are covered and I often wonder if there isn’t something more nefarious going on. I first looked up Thai Lotus Healing Spa online, I checked out their website,…
When you think ‘detox’, what do you think of? Not eating for several days? Swallowing down a cleanse or juicing and missing the sensation of eating? Kind of makes you uncomfortable, doesn’t it? What if you could go through detoxing and feel pampered and luxurious? Ladies, welcome to Willow Spa, a day spa nestled in Santa Monica, waiting to spoil you through various and many ways. Willow Spa recently won the Best of LA Massage in 2013 from CitySearch. (This is a big deal in the massage world!) They are best known for their Thai massage, (divine), but I wanted…
You just had a 16 hour day on set, and you consider yourself lucky to have been part of a great production! However, your body has reminded you that it just spent 16 HOURS on its feet, which are tired, and your neck is fighting off a crick, and your low back is feeling a little tight, and good god, does a massage sound good right now. A massage? Where the heck can you get one and know that you’ve spent the right time and money on taking care of yourself? Heck, is it even worth it? YES, YES IT…
Last night I shot my first fight scene. I had a fabulous time! I was with my Fight Class friends and family. The challenges: my asthma acted up. It’s been awhile since it’s done so and I think I it was just due to being out of shape, yet another reason to get back into running. Usually in class, you do a couple rounds of practicing a fight, but you get enough time in between tries. So it was a whole new experience for me. Sometimes, even in “straight acting” you have to do several takes of a scene, or…
