Thankfully, there are ways to fake perfection.
Prep the skin. It’s nearly impossible to look flawless when your skin’s flaking off, so you need to start off with really hydrated skin. This means exfoliating at least twice a week (which lets moisturizers sink in) and using night and day moisturizers that suit your skin type.
Cover blemishes. Though you’re going for a makeup-free look, you can still wear concealer on blemishes and under your eyes. I love Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, $28, and I suggest applying it with your fingertips, as the oils in your skin will warm up the product and help it blend more.
Use a primer. Primers smooth on without adding color and smooth out any bumps on your skin leaving behind a perfectly even surface. Try MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Microperfecting Primer , $35.
Swap foundation for a tinted moisturizer. Tinted moisturizer is much lighter than foundation, so it’s less obvious that you are wearing makeup. Try Estee Lauder Sheer Tint Release for an extra glow.
Add a rosy glow. No one wants to look washed out, but you don’t want to look like you are wearing a ton of blush. Go for a cream blush, on the apple of your checks, again, apply it with your fingers for a youthful flush. Try MAC Blushcremes.
Go for brown. Black mascara can leave you looking made up. Use a brown hue and an eyelash curler to achieve a low key look. Try Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara .
Use powder on brows. For a ‘bare-faced’ look brows should be kept neat and natural looking. The last thing you want is that drawn-in brow effect so use a powder the same color as your eyebrows or one shade lighter to fill in any spares areas.
Amp up your natural lip color. For a juicy-looking pout exfoliate your lips with your toothbrush every morning to give a little color and plump them up, then apply a lip balm, either colorless or tinted.
