Less than a year ago I decided to give Stand Up comedy a try. How? When? Why? I don’t recall how this crazy idea came into my head, I just remember people telling me I was funny telling stories and that I should give it a try. Now it’s become part of my life, I perform every week and I absolutely love it!! My passion for this industry takes me in new directions. I began with acting, then writing, then directing and now Stand Up… I love being able to explore different creative outlets, it can change your perspective completely!…

For those who don’t know me, I’m originally from Spain. (Yes, that’s why I have a funny accent) (and no, it’s not in South America, it’s in Europe). For the past two years I’ve lived in LA and I’ve come back to Madrid for Christmas (and presents!). Do I miss Spain? All the time. I’m in España while I write this article, do I miss LA? Like crazy. I’m now divided, it’s something that’s in my head daily: is this LA thing just a crazy idea or is it where I should be? Where’s home for me now? I’ve been…

I can’t wait! I’m going to Spain in a week for Christmas!!! I’ve had to book out with my agents, pause my gym subscription and start getting into Vacation Mode. I’ve been working so hard lately it feels awkward to have a full month to stop. I’ve realized I deserve to rest, so I can fuel up and focus on the other half of my heart, my family and friends. You deserve to take a break too. Suddenly it hit me: Another year has gone by. Inevitably I’ve started evaluating this year in my life. I was focusing on what…

You’ve finally booked a role! What should you be doing? Posting it on Facebook? Celebrating all night? Yes, of course. But you should be preparing for this amazing opportunity ahead of you. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like a job as it is something you enjoy so much and have passion for, but don’t forget it is your JOB and you have to be professional about it. PREPARE: When you book a role, you will get your sides so start working on them. You have to be off book on set, you can’t show up not ‘knowing where the script is…

After reading the title most people will stop reading thinking it’s an article on how women should rule the world, not shave, and ban men from earth. THERE IS A COMPLETE MISCONCEPTION OF WHAT FEMINISM IS. This article is the result of something I read on facebook that burned several neurons in my brain; a girl proudly stating that she is a feminist because she doesn’t allow a man to tell her she’s pretty. Wait, what? That is not feminism. And the eventual comments that followed made me want to private message each of them stating how #%^&*@#$$% they were.…

One of the people who commented on my 1st article on HEALTHY COMPETITION brought this matter to the table: How about healthy competition with yourself? A great question that ties to the title of this week’s article. Can you answer my question? I can’t. Yes, I am my best friend most of the time. I am positive and I’m normally smiling. I wake up and look forward to my days even though rejection is 99.999999% of my job. I’ve learned to cope with it and give it less and less importance every time but, once in a while, the day…

When I first arrived in L.A., I was overwhelmed by the fact that ‘everyone’ was an actor. How was I going to succeed with so much competition? But then I started hearing things like ‘I have to get new headshots’, ‘My reel is 4 minutes long’, ‘I haven’t had an audition in a year’, ‘I don’t watch TV’, ‘I don’t go to the movies’, etc. And all I could think is: Then, you’re not an actor. ‘Stanislavs-who?’ That one went to the bottom of my heart. How can you consider yourself an actor without knowing the father of your craft?…

After a number of years in this business (this sentence just made me feel really old), I came to a revelation. Stop competing, it takes away too much time. And please don’t compete against someone who is not your competition. Who is not your competition? Anybody who is not your type. Yes, the hated ‘typecast’ word that actors run away from is a reality, and you should understand what your type is. When you understand your type, the number of roles you can go out for is more specific, and the dream of “making it” becomes more of a reality. You…
