Just Another Hashtag…or How to Tweet Better

Jennifer BobiwashWhen making my New Year’s resolution, I told myself that this year I was going to be an actor. Ok, wait, I already am an actor, but I mean work a little harder than I have been. But here it is March and I am still trying to do that, but I have gotten sucked into producing. It has been non-stop, one production after another and I have realized what a better job I can do as an actor to help out the project.

Working on small projects, the budget is usually $0 or close to it and you have to wear multiple hats and learn to do a variety of jobs. You, being the good actor that you are, start posting pictures of you from the set (after you’ve gotten permission from production first of course) and you’re using hashtags like #feelingblessed or #livingthedream. If you’re on some network show that’s great, they have PR departments behind them. But if you’re working on a webseries or an independent film everything you post is an additional invaluable resource that the producers don’t have. They can’t be everywhere. So when you’re posting, don’t forget to tag the project or the production company, they’ll appreciate it.

1) Book a project

2) Ask Production if it’s ok to post pictures.

3) Ask Production if they have hashtags they’re using and what their handles are so you can tag them.

4) Make friends.

5) Take interesting photos.

6) Post away. Don’t let your tweeting get in the way of you doing your job. You are after all an actor.

I try to keep in mind the 80/20 rule (remember Natasha Younge’s How To Promote Successfully Using Twitter – Cheat-Sheet Series).

I am a big fan of social media. I love it when after posting something I am passionate about, that a follower or friend comments or asks questions. Because isn’t that what it’s all about? S-O-C-I-A-L M-E-D-I-A? Creating discussion and conversation.
